Prof. Dr. Peter H. Kooijmans (1933) chairs the Steering Group for the Faith in Human Rights Conference. He studied Economics and Law at the Free University, Amsterdam, where he earned is Ph.D. in 1964. From 1965-1973 he was Professor International Law and European Law at the Free University and from (1978-1992, 1995-1997) at Leiden University. Professor Kooijmans twice changed the academia for an active role in politics: in 1973 he became State Secretary of Foreign Affairs and in 1993 he became Minister of Foreign Affairs. From 1997 until 2005 Prof. Kooijmans served as Judge at the International Court of Justice. In 2007 he was appointed Minister of State.
